Randy Thompson Joins SVH as Chief Nursing Officer
For Randy Thompson it is very important to assist patients and their families to navigate through the healthcare process. He has made this a priority throughout his career as an EMT and later, as a registered nurse and nursing leader.
A love for outdoor adventure and excitement for the new St. Vincent Health have brought Randy and his wife, Paula, to Leadville from North Carolina. They have called the southeastern United States home throughout their 20-plus–year marriage.
Years of expereince and a love for the outdoors
Randy has been an Outdoor Adventure Guide and obtained Wilderness EMT, Swiftwater Rescue and Confined Space instructors certifications before completing his Associates Degree in Biology and Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He was the Chief Nursing Officer at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV for thirteen years and was awarded CNO of the year.
Thompson believes that it is incumbent on healthcare professionals to listen to patients with undivided attention, respect, without judgement and provide care as if they were family.
“After visiting with St. Vincent’s exceptional healthcare team, I truly believed that I could share my past rural healthcare experiences to benefit St Vincent as Chief Nursing Officer, but most importantly I strive to be in a position where I could truly make a difference,” commented Randy.
Randy is a 30-year whitewater guide. He and Paula proclaim to be addicted to fishing. With their daughter Candice out on her own they knew it was time to head west. Randy’s goal is to “out fish” Paula this summer – as she’s the pro in the family.
